About Lomita:
Founded in 2009 by Fernando Pérez Castro, Lomita is a distinguished winery situated in the Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California.
Under the expertise of enologist Gustavo González, known for his work with Italy's renowned Super Tuscan "Masseto" during the early 2000s, Lomita produces eight distinct wines and around 10,000 cases a year.
The winery is committed to organic viticulture, collaborating with artists and social commitment in collaborating with the LGBTQ community.
What's in your mouth? A blind tasting of agave spirits hosted by Mezcalistas
Join Mezcalistas on Saturday, November 9th at 12pm as we blindly taste our way through six different agave spirits. We'll have some light palette cleansers on hand as well. Led by agave head Khrys Maxwell and Susan Coss of Mezcalistas, this is a deep, yet approachable dive into the incredibly diverse world of agave distillates.
What's in your mouth is not a qualitative tasting but rather one geared to help us understand why flavors vary so much in the world of agave. We focus on process- how the agave was cooked, how it was distilled- where it is from and what kind of agave was used and that influences flavors. This is a fun tasting for aficionados as well as newbies because it is all about understanding what creates the underlying flavors. The "winner" receives a very special and unique bottle of distilled agave.

Zinacantan: Tasting paired with prix fixe dinner
Zincacantan was founded in 2012 by mezcalera Fabiola Torres Monfil and co-founder Diana Pinzon. The fabrica de mezcal is based in the hills of San Diego de la Mesa Tochimiltzingo, an hour outside of the center of Puebla. Fabiola, a fifth generation mezcal producer, comes from a family that has been making mezcal for over three hundred years. The brand Zinacantan, is a Nahuatl word that means 'land of bats' and nods to the focus on sustainability throughout the process of mezcal production from quantity to process to waste and the impact it leaves behind. Although new to the US market, the brand is over ten years old. Diana guides you through the Zinacantan mezcal tasting. Alongside will be Chef José Ramos pairing a prix fixe dinner menu.

Rafael García Aragón is first generation Maestro Mezcalero he used to lived in California. He moved back to Oaxaca in 2008 and made his own distillery called Palenque Escondido. Now His son Jair Garcia now follow in his steps, came to California and launch this brand in 2020. Tepanal come from the Nahuatl word Tepanaltepec which means hills of the honey comb. This was the name until the Spanish Conquest now named Santa Maria Sola de Vega. Jair will guide you through tasting the expressions from Sola de Vega. Alongside will be Chef José Ramos pairing a prix fixe dinner menu.

Meet & Greet Pedro Jiménez of Mezonte
Join us in welcoming Pedro Jiménez of Mezonte and Salvador "Chava" Rosales Trejo of Tequila Cascahuín. Pedro is the founder of Mezonte, an organization that works with agave spirit producers across Mexico to ensure they receive fair wages and that their tremendous cultural contributions are recognized. He is also the director of “Viva Mezcal,” one of the most thought-provoking documentaries on contemporary Mexican culture.
Pedro is the curator of extremely small productions of agave distillates poured at his bar, Pare de Sufrir, one of Guadalajara’s best bars. The Rosales family from El Arenal, Jalisco have been distilling Tequila since 1904.

Join us in welcoming Diana Pinzón of Zinacantán Mezcal to Odin Mezcalería. Mezcal Zinacantán is a project founded by Diana Pinzon and Fabiola Torres Monfil.
Their production route is guided by respect for the land, recognition of the hard work of the producers, their tradition, and the dignity of their Mezcalero profession through fair payment. Come and say hi to Diana.

Bay Area Premier of Sons of Mezcal
Mezcal is more than an intoxicating spirit. It is the sacred link that binds modern-day mezcaleros to their ancestors. Sons of Mezcal transports you into this living history.
Sons of Mezcal highlights the lives of four families from four different villages in Oaxaca; The Cortés, Vásquez, Méndez, and Parada families. Casa Cortés works with 17 different families in 16 different regions for the production of its mezcals. Several of the individuals in the film are members of the Cortés family, while the other featured mezcaleros are from their own families.
However, all the families featured in the documentary work together as part of a tightly-knit community of mezcal producers that provide the foundations for the El Jolgorio, Nuestra Soledad, and Agave de Cortés brands of mezcal.

Meet our dear friend Susan Coss Co-founder and Director at Mezcalistas. Susan has a long tenure in pioneering the mezcal industry and educating others with her blog “Mezcalistas” which many of us have used as a resource to learn, and keep up to date with different stories. Susan has dedicated her career to fostering the vital connection between land, farmers, and artisans in the culinary and beverage industries.
Susan will be visiting us to talk about sustainability, the costs of making mezcal and what the future holds for this sacred drink. She'll wrap up the talk as we embrace the role of women in the agave business.
Susan was named a 2019 Drink Innovator by SevenFiftyDaily and featured in Imbibe Magazine as part of its Agave issue.

Max works along with partners Niki Nakazawa & Yuskei Murayama, to work closely with over twenty small, family producers from the southern valleys and hills of Miahuatlán, Oaxaca, many of whom are members of the cooperative Grupo Productor Logoche.
Max will guide us through tasting the mezcal made by Evaristo Aquino Gutiérrez, Aniceto García, Primitivo Vázquez and Cándido García Cruz.

About Author:
Meet David Suro, a close friend, a true inspiration, and the proud owner of the renowned restaurant Tequilas in Philadelphia. Originally hailing from Guadalajara, David Suro set foot in Philadelphia and established Tequilas in 1986. However, he immediately noticed a worrisome reality - the tequilas available in the Northeastern US were far from satisfactory. Fueled by a strong determination to offer his guests an authentic Mexican experience, David embarked on an extraordinary journey that spanned decades. To craft a delightful, traditional tequila that he could wholeheartedly serve. He currently owns: Siembra Valles, Siembra Metl and Siembra Azul
